Breast Reduction
in Jacksonville, FL
Naturally large breasts can do more than cause unwanted attention. They can leave you with physical pain as well as emotional distress. A breast reduction can give your breasts a more proportionate shape and a more youthful, lifted nipple areola position. This can help to alleviate neck pain and back pain and boost your confidence. Our Plastic Surgeons at Coastal Cosmetic Center, Timothy E. Fee, MD, and Jordan A. Bilezikian, MD, offer breast reductions to help inspire each individual to meet their personal aesthetic goals.

What is a Breast Reduction?
Excessively large breasts can cause physical and psychological pain. Breast reduction decreases volume in breasts that are disproportionally large, helping to reshape the breasts and giving them a younger appearance while also helping to alleviate neck and back pain associated with heavy breasts.
What Are the Benefits of a Breast Reduction?
For women with large and heavy breasts, breast reduction surgery can significantly impact the quality of their life. It can also alleviate the common issues of neck pain, back pain, and shoulder grooving. It can also help eliminate the unwanted attention and fashion challenges that come with having an overly large bust size.
Am I Too Young for a Breast Reduction?
This is a question that our plastic surgeons are often asked. There are some disorders of breast development that cause very large breasts in younger women who are about to go through puberty or already going through puberty. Sometimes this breast growth is proportionate and sometimes it may affect one breast disproportionally to another. If you are concerned that something may not be right, come see one of our plastic surgeons for a full evaluation and for some guidance.
Some women develop very large breasts at a young age and some seem to not stop growing as they age. Other times, women develop larger breasts after pregnancy or nursing. There are many age ranges where large breasts may affect your physical or psychological well-being. Our plastic surgeons will be able to assess your individual symptoms and develop a plan that is right for you.
Who is an Ideal Candidate for Breast Reduction?
Breast reduction is ideal for women who suffer from overly large breasts that cause strain on the neck, shoulders, and back, as well as make it difficult to find clothing and bras that fit. A breast reduction can also make it more practical to achieve those fitness goals that have seemed so stubborn to achieve. Breast reduction is also ideal for men who have an abundance of breast tissue, a condition known as gynecomastia.

How is a Breast Reduction Performed?
A breast reduction, also known as a reduction mammoplasty, will remove excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin to optimize your breast size. A breast lift is a similar procedure in that in a breast reduction, the remaining tissue is lifted back up on the chest into a more youthful position and shape. Although the primary goal of a breast reduction is to reduce larger sized breasts. Some women who think they need a breast reduction end up needing a breast lift with a very small amount of breast tissue removed. The procedure will take place under general anesthesia at our on-site nationally accredited Coastal Surgery Center in Jacksonville, FL. Surgery will last approximately two to three hours. The procedure is performed in different ways with different patients, but usually the incision pattern appears like an ‘anchor’—through which the fat, tissue, and skin are removed to arrange the tissue into a more youthful, lifted, firmer breast.
What is the Recovery for a Breast Reduction?
Recovery time from breast reduction surgery ranges from only a few days to several weeks off work, which depends on your type of work. Common side effects include swelling, temporary bruising and discomfort—all of which will recede as the breasts heal. Patients must also abstain from strained over head reaching or arm extensions upwards, and lifting anything over 10 pounds during the post-operative recovery period.
