Is Liposuction Right for Me?

Liposuction in Jacksonville & Fleming Island, FLWe know it’s frustrating. You’ve been going to the gym consistently for months, swapped out your favorite potato chips for carrot sticks and still aren’t seeing the progress you deserve when you look in the mirror. If you’re not able to get rid of stubborn fat on your own, you may want to consider liposuction to give you a boost.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical cosmetic procedure in which fat is removed from the body through a thin, hollow tube via gentle suction. Although liposuction may get a bad rap, many men and women on the cusp of their goal weight turn to liposuction to give them an extra boost towards their ultimate look. Celebrities that come to mind when we think of liposuction mostly include women like Kim Kardashian, but even big, buff men like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson have undergone liposuction to help them get their signature chiseled physique.

How do I Know if I Need Liposuction?

If you’ve tried to lose weight with diet and exercise but just can’t seem to lose those last 10lbs no matter how hard you try, liposuction may be right for you. Ideal candidates for liposuction have been able to maintain their weight for several months leading up to their procedure, are within 30lbs of their goal weight, follow a healthy lifestyle and are in good general health. It’s important to remember that liposuction is not a substitute to losing weight naturally, so if you’re looking for a quick way to drop 30lbs fast, lipo may not be what you’re looking for.

How Long Does it Take to Recover from Liposuction?

Recovery time varies from person to person, but it typically takes about six to eight weeks for patients to feel like themselves again. Immediately following your liposuction procedure, you’re going to experience some swelling, bruising, tenderness and mild discomfort in your treated area. Over the next few weeks, you’ll also be instructed to wear a special compression garment similar to Spanx®. This garment helps reduce your swelling and ensures your skin heals flat against your body’s new contours. While it may take up to two months to fully recover, many patients report feeling ready to return to work within seven to 10 days following their treatment.

Is Liposuction Worth it?

If you’re interested in finding a way to boost the weight loss you’ve worked so hard for, liposuction will definitely be worth it for you. Remember that liposuction doesn’t just have to be done in the midsection, either. Lipo can be performed nearly anywhere on the body to rid unwanted fat including under your chin, around your upper arms, in your thighs and calves, and around your chest. Although recovering from your procedure is a process, with a healthy diet and regular exercise, the results of your liposuction procedure have the potential to last a lifetime!
